Getting Here

Jinja is the gateway between Kenya and the rest of Uganda and easy to get to by road either from Kampala, Nairobi or the airport at Entebbe. 

Getting here from Kampala

Jinja is 80 kms north-east of Kampala and is easily accessible by buses and minibus taxis (matatu), but by far the easiest way is to catch our FREE Kampala – Jinja shuttle.

Getting to / from Kenya

Direct buses are available from Nairobi, Eldoret and Nakuru with Akamba and Kampala Coaches.
 
If you are coming from Kenya make sure you inform the bus driver that you want to get off the bus in Jinja before you put your bags in the hold. Many a traveler has suffered the frustration of finding that although they can get off the bus in Jinja, their bags have been sealed by customs and must continue to Kampala.
 
You will be dropped at the Gapco roundabout where a small army of boda boda’s drivers will be there to whisk you away to your final destination. The average fair to Explorers Backpackers should be no more than the equivalent of about US$1
 
Both Akamba and Kampala Coaches have offices here in Jinja for return or onward travel.
