Getting Here

Jinja is the gateway between Kenya and the rest of Uganda and easy to get to by road either from Kampala, Nairobi or the airport at Entebbe.

From Kampala

Jinja is 80 kms north-east of Kampala and is easily accessible by bus and minibus taxis (matatu). 

To Explorers River Camp, Bujagali (own transport)

  • As you approach Jinja you will cross over the River Nile on the new bridge.
  • After 1km you will come to a roundabout, where you turn left heading to Bujagali.
  • We are 7km from that roundabout.
  • There is then a turning to the left, signed Nile River Explorers and All Terrain Adventures, turn there and we are 1km along on the left hand side, big red gates.
  • The sign says, Nile River Explorers and Explorers River Camp.

To Explorers River Camp, Bujagali (public transport)

  • As you approach Jinja you will cross over the River Nile on the new bridge.
  • After 1km you will come to a roundabout, get off the taxi at that roundabout.
  • Ask a boda-boda to take you to Nile River Explorers / Explorers River Camp in Bujagali.
  • We are 7km from that roundabout
  • The average fair to Explorers River Camp should be no more than the equivalent of about US$1.50-$2.00.
  • You will find us on the left hand side, behind the big red gates signed.
  • The sign says, Nile River Explorers and Explorers River Camp. 

From Kenya

Direct buses are available from Nairobi, Eldoret and Nakuru with numerous bus companies.

To Jinja By Bus

  • If you are coming from Kenya make sure you inform the bus driver that you want to get off the bus in Jinja before you put your bags in the hold. Many a traveler has suffered the frustration of finding that although they can get off the bus in Jinja, their bags have been sealed by customs and must continue to Kampala.
  • You will be dropped at the Clock Tower roundabout where a small army of boda boda’s drivers will be there to whisk you away to your final destination.
  • Bus company offices are also here in Jinja for return or onward travel.
  • All buses depart Jinja from 'Clock Tower' roundabout.

To Explorers River Camp, Bujagali (public transport)

  • Ask a boda-boda to take you to Nile River Explorers / Explorers River Camp in Bujagali.
  • We are 7km from the next roundabout, where there is a Java House coffee shop.
  • The average fair to NRE Adventure Central should be no more than the equivalent of about US$2.00-2.50.  
  • You will find us on the left hand side, behind the big red gates signed.
  • The sign says, Nile River Explorers and Explorers River Camp.
  • It is not advised to take a boda when it is still dark. 

To Explorers River Camp, Bujagali (own transport)

  • As you approach Jinja you will come to a series of 3 roundabouts.
  • Keep left at the first one and straight across the second one, following signs for Kampala.
  • At the third roundabout, where there is a Java House coffee shop, turn right heading to Bujagali.
  • We are 7km from that roundabout.
  • There is then a turning to the left, signed Nile River Explorers and All Terrain Adventures, turn there and we are 1km along on the left hand side, big red gates. The sign says, Nile River Explorers and Explorers River Camp.
