Is it safe?
We have chosen the calmest, most relaxing parts of the Nile for our Kayak Cruises so there is no white water to worry about. But, ass with all adventure activities there is an element of risk, otherwise it would not really be an adventure, but when you cruise with Kayak the Nile you’re with an industry leader. Our highly trained guides , excellent safety record and well maintained kayaking equipment give you the security of knowing you are in expert hands on with Kayak the Nile.
Do I need to have kayaked before?
Absolutely not! Our guides are practiced at providing the perfect introduction for those who have never sat in a boat before. No experience is needed to try out this fantastic sport.
When is the best time of year to go?
Apart from Xmas Day and New Years Day we kayak everyday as the flow is dam controlled and not seasonal or affected by rains.
Do I need to book this trip in advance?
Trips are flexible, however to ensure our service to you is as efficient as we like, we would recommend that you book at least the day before particularly if you require transport or accommodation. Please be aware that on weekends, especially in high season our accommodation can fill very quickly.
Can I use the free transport from Kampala, stay the night, and use the shuttle back the next day ?
You can use the transport any day you wish but it only departs at the end of that days rafting and bookings are essential.
Will I get wet and/or cold?
You will certainly get wet but the water is always warm. You might get cold if it gets windy, in which case spray jackets will be provided.
What happens if it is raining?
We kayak everyday rain or shine, except for our sunset trips which in this case would be cancelled or postponed. As we are on the equator most rains in Uganda are tropical rains, intense but for only a short period of time. Should you encounter a storm on the river, the guides will find a safe haven until it has passed.
What is the possibility of falling out of the kayak?
There is a chance of falling out of the boat but very slim.
What if I am vegetarian or have other dietary needs?
No problem, we cater for vegetarians every day, just let us know when you are making your booking.
Can I go if I have a medical condition?
Please let us know in the morning if you have any medical condition you think we should be aware of particularly previous injuries, and take any medicines with you for the day.
Can I go if I have a disability?
We like to help everyone experience the Nile and specialize in helping those with disabilities. If you do have a disability and would like to go kayaking please contact us and we will do our best to make it possible.
What do I do with my bags and valuables to keep them safe?
Bags and valuables can be left at our office Explorers River Camp, they will be stored in a safe place. Do not take any valuables on the river!
What about crocs and hippos?
In 20 years of operation there have been no crocodile related incidents as they do not like populated areas so are rarely seen. There are no hippos on this stretch of river.
