Whether staying in Jinja or Kampala, we will provide free transport to our base at Nile River Explorers camp in Bujagali. Please ensure that we are aware of your pick-up point by the day before.
On arrival in Bujagali, you will have the opportunity to meet your guides and fellow kayakers, as well as a private vehicle and driver that will go with your trip. Once any remaining questions are answered, you will get a trip briefing and receive all the necessary safety equipment for your adventure ahead.
As the river meanders through beautiful scenery, we guide the kayaks into the mighty challenges of some of the biggest and safest white water in the world. The first half of the day is made up of a wide range of easier rapids to test out all your skills. You are given all the necessary instructions, and a chance to practice them, and will try surfing little waves, dodging out of the rapids into eddies (flat bits beside the rapid) and back into the rapid again. Lunch provides the fuel, and the mornings skills provide the confidence to take on some epic rapids in the afternoon.
We stop before all grade 4 and 5 rapids to explain to you the planned route through. There are easier and harder options through or around all the rapids, so if at anytime you feel you would prefer to go down the easiest line or even walk around and then rejoin later, this is absolutely fine. Calm stretches of water separate the rapids – perfect for getting your breath back, taking a swim and enjoying the scenery.
At the end of the kayaking day we pull over at the takeout where you are met by the driver and vehicle, equipped with cold beers and sodas… they never tasted so good as the end of a big day on the water! Once the guides have packed the equipment up you will be transported by the free shuttle bus to Kampala or Jinja.
For those of you staying at Explorers River Camp at Bujugali, there is no better way to finish the day than by enjoying the unequalled views of a sunset on the Nile.
